Lafayette County treasurer pleads to theft

Keesha Rose, 37, pleaded guilty in Texarkana today to federal charges that she stole almost a quarter of a million dollars from Lafayette County.

She is county treasurer and tax collector in Lafayette County (not the former treasurer as I originally wrote). She embezzled more than $240,000 in public money by diverting public money to herself between 2011 and 2013. She was charged in federal court under a charge related to theft from programs receiving federal money.

She was indicted last March. Sentencing will be later. Her term of office runs through December 31.
