AETN is livestreaming its 4th District congressional debate. Find it here.

James Lee Witt (Democrat), Bruce Westerman (Republican) and Ken Hamilton (Libertarian) will get as much media exposure here as they're likely to get this campaign season in their unwieldly district, which lacks many major media voices.

Witt opens with his remarkable personal story, up from poverty to great government and corporate success. And he emphasizes working across party lines.

Westerman opened with a mention of his time as a walk-on Razorback and small businessman. But, after saying he wanted civil discourse, he did find a way to get in a dig at President Obama and his "liberal allies."

First question: Would they join Tom Cotton in opposing a farm bill that included food stamps. Westerman and Witt both talked of their deep farm roots. Witt forthrightly said he supported the farm bill and the nutrition elements because of the return they represent in food for families and economic stimulus. Westerman expressed reservations about the food stamp program, but said he wouldn't cast a vote against a farm bill that included nutirtion spending. He would work to reform food stamps, he said.

Immigration? Witt is for a pathway to citizenship. Westerman is not. He calls it amnesty.

Witt and Westerman are earnest, prepared candidates who present clear choices of governance. Based on their records, it's safe to predict Witt would be more of a problem-solver than West
