, the Republican candidate for governor, held a news conference at the state Capitol today with a group of teachers who support him. You'll remember that Asa had nasty things to say about teachers when the Arkansas Education Association
endorsed Democrat Mike Ross
, after Hutchinson had interviewed for the group's endorsement.
The teachers with Asa today are presumably not liberal union goons who put their interests ahead of children, as Asa characterized the thousands of good people in the AEA.
He's going to cut taxes and improve education, Hutchinson said. He noted his wife had been a substitute teacher. He repeated his vow to have a computer science course at every high school. He's also going to work on the teacher insurance problem. No specifics offered. THAT won't be very easy to fix if Hutchinson whacks taxes by $100 million in his first year in office, plus does away with the Medicaid expansion. As yet, he's refused to commit to keeping the tens of millions in federal aid that has helped balance Arkansas's budget thanks to the Obamacare Medicaid expansion.r next paycheck is going or if they can afford reliable health care.”

were named co-chairs of "Teachers for Asa."
