Republican gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson will be joined by failed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney at an appearance this afternoon in Jonesboro. Only in Obama-hating Arkansas could an appearance by “40 percent” Mitt be turned into a plus.

The Arkansas Democratic Party comments:

Democratic Party of Arkansas Chair Vincent Insalaco released the following statement in response to Mitt Romney campaigning with Congressman Hutchinson in Jonesboro today:

“Mitt Romney and Congressman Hutchinson are two sides of the same coin when it comes to taxes. Mitt Romney stashed millions in overseas bank accounts to avoid paying taxes and Congressman Hutchinson illegally took homestead tax credits on both of his homes. Arkansans just can’t trust a Washington, DC insider and former lobbyist like Congressman Hutchinson.”

UPDATE: The Tom Cotton for Senate campaign also said Romney would appear with Cotton at 10 a.m. Thursday in North Little Rock. You’ll have to call the campaign to get clearance to drop in, Write david@tomcotton.com

UPDATE II: A group associated with Democratic governors took wraps off an ad hitting Hutchinson for his double-dipping on a tax exemption and for not being straight about it when first caught.
