Two candidates filed for Little Rock City Board today — Director B.J. Wyrick
for re-election to her Ward 7 seat and Pam Adcock,
a former state representative, for Ken Richardson's
Ward 2 seat.
Adcock lives in Southwest Little Rock. Richardson lives in the center city. The ward connects those two relatively disparate neighborhood
s by a narrow strip of land consisting primarily of UALR.
Richardson will be seeking re-election. He's tussled with another Adcock, At-Large Director Joan Adcock
. She and Pam Adcock have been political allies over the years. (I don't know if their families have any blood ties.) I suspect Joan Adcock recruited Pam Adcock into this race. One Adcock on the board is already too many when it comes to Uber, Lyft, after-hour clubs and other issues.
Wonder if people in SWLR, with its growing Latino population, will remember the nasty little bill Adcock introduced in the legislature in 2009 (it failed) “To require publications produced or distributed by state government to be provided in all languages, including Braille and sign language, if the publication is provided in Spanish." Not very neighbor friendly, it didn't seem at the time. I also remember
when she refused to join 66 sponsors on a House resolution in support of the Equal Rights Amendment in 2007. She in fact could have been the critical vote to get the ERA out of committee when it failed on a tie vote. She was a "no."
I'm guerssing Pam Adcock, if she opposes equal rights for women, wouldn't be a good bet for the city civil rights resolution that I keep encouraging the Little Rock Board to consider so it could catch up with cities in Mississippi, Houston, Texas and various other more progressive places that encourage equality for gay people.
Be interesting to watch how Joan Adcock's friend in the taxi business operates if he runs another one of his ride-to-the-polls deals.
UPDATE: City Director Doris Wright
also filed for re-election to Ward 6.
