Little Rock City Board
seats will be on the ballot in November and the Ward 3 seat currently held by Stacy Hurst will be open. Former Democratic state Rep. Kathy Webb has already made her plans known to seek the seat and the mail yesterday brought invitation to a fund-raiser next week for her at Norman Hodges' home, with a host committee of familiar names, many of them veteran Democratic campaigners.
The seats are non-partisan, but Hurst, who's running for legislature, is a Republican and, though energetic, rarely in the leadership on tough board issues (think ruining Broadway with a convenience store). Webb rose to co-chair of Joint Budget in her time in the legislature.
Anybody else with word on potential City Board races? Opposition to Erma Hendrix
has been promised by Kenyon Lowe.
Rev. Benny Johnson
, the campaigner against crime in the inner city, has threatened to run against the mayor. (Who is the mayor, again? Is he the guy who appointed the people who overrode the city planning staff to put a gas station almost in the shadow of a $70 million renovated city auditorium? The guy who hasn't been heard from on the issue?).
