CRIME SCENE: Parking lot (foreground) of fitness center.
The Sunday line is open. Not much to report, except this crime-in-the-city anecdote.
I go to the fitness center in War Memorial Park
every Sunday afternoon. It's busy. Basketball players. Swimmers. Walkers. Weight lifters.
When I walked up this afternoon, I met a couple of familiar guys from the weight room standing outside. One was a crime victim. He'd put his stuff in a locker for a workout about 1 p.m. He went back to his locker at 1:45 p.m. It was open. His car keys were gone. He walked outside and his car door was ajar. A thief had rummaged through the car. I don't know what, if anything was taken.
That sign warning gym users about leaving valuables in lockers is apparently good advice. My standard Little Rock advice to drivers holds true. Don't keep anything of value in your car. That way, you can leave it unlocked so the city's sizable contingent of professional car thieves won't have to break windows to search it.
If you haven't been to War Memorial: The crime victim was in the parking lot on the east side of the building, in direct line with the front door, maybe 25 yards away. The lot is visible through the windows that line the east wall of the walking track. Bold thief.
