COTTON CUT TARGET: Amtrak service, shown here at recently added Hope stop.
A supporter of rail passenger service sends along this roll call in the U.S. House
Tuesday on an amendment to cut Amtrak's
operating budget by 10 percent, or $34 million. (Amtrak's Texas Eagle runs through Arkansas, FYI.)
The amendment was defeated 248-154. Of the four members of the Arkansas House delegations — all Republicans — only Rep. Tom Cotton
voted to slash Amtrak spending. The Amtrak route has stops in his district, including a new stop in Hope
added at a cost of $250,000 less than a year ago.
I know. Cotton would say we just can't afford all this government. Trains. Disaster aid. Social Security. Medicare, Medicaid.
Guns we can afford.
