Republican Sen. Bryan King of Green Forest has long had a bone to pick with the Carroll County election commission, to the point that he introduced special-interest legislation in 2013 to attempt to take control of it. He's on the warpath this year again over some primary night problems and used an election commission meeting last week to harshly criticize current and former election officials. His criticism included a claim that former commissioner Levi Phillips had "manipulated" election results.

It was all too much for Jim Earls, general manager of Berryville radio station KTHS, who broadcast an editorial castigating King for his criticism of hard-working election workers and for his manner. "You lost your temper. You acted unprofessional. You made slanderous statements," Earls said. He observed — as other brilliant analysts have (thinking me) — that King has "learned to bully his way through discussions he is not in agreement with."

If Levi Phillips is such a manipulator, Earls wondered, how is it that King got elected? Earls observed that candidates King endorsed lost in last week's election. He also acknowledged that King will be unopposed in November. Beneath the unopposed candidate spot on the ballot, Earl said he'll write, "Not Bryan King."

You can hear King's remarks and Earls' response at the stations's website.
