The Little Rock police have charged Leslie Webb, 30, a homeless man, with the stabbing death of Willie Taylor, 45, of North Little Rock who Webb said attacked him at his camp on North Street off Cantrell Road just east of the Episcopal Collegiate School campus.

Police were en route to 1400 North Street about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday when Webb flagged an officer down a few blocks east at La Harpe and State. Webb told officers he camped near 1400 North and was awakened by a man shining a flashlight in his face. He said the man struck him in the face. Webb said he grabbed a pocket knife and began stabbing his attacker. The attack stopped and Webb said he fled.

Officers said Webb had injuries to his face and blood on his arms and shirt. He gave officers the knife he used and led officers to the camp, where Taylor was found. Detectives determined the circumstances of the death were different than those described by Webb and charged him with first-degree murder.
