The National Rifle Association today endorsed state Rep. Ann Clemmer in the Republican primary race for 2nd District Congress. Republican opponents aren't exactly soft on guns. There's Colonel Reynolds, with his military background, and French Hill, who distributed a  photo of himself with a haul of ducks on a day he was en route to the Big Buck Classic.

Clemmer's news release:

Today the National Rifle Association, America’s foremost defender of Second Amendment Rights, announced its endorsement of State Representative Ann Clemmer. No other candidate in Arkansas’ Second Congressional race received the NRA endorsement.

Rep. Clemmer had this to say, “There is no organization that voters trust more than the NRA to inform them on who will best defend their Second Amendment Rights. I am proud of my pro-gun record, and receiving the NRA endorsement is a true honor. ”

Clemmer is currently running to replace Congressman Tim Griffin (R).

Rep. Clemmer and her husband Jamie (US Air Force, Ret.) have been members of the NRA and their local Benton Gun Club for the last fifteen years. Rep. Clemmer is also a member of the Arkansas Rifle and Pistol Association.

Ann Clemmer lives in Saline County with her husband and is the mother of three daughters. She also has two sons-in-law and a granddaughter.

The winner will face, among others, former North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Henry Hays, the unopposed Democrat. He's a hunter, an Army Reserve captain and a member of the NRA, too. But it's a rare Democrat who gets an NRA endorsement these days, no matter how gun nutty.
