Police in Washington County have arrested a former player for the Arkansas Razorbacks after animal control officers allegedly found one dead dog and another starving in a home where the player was once a tenant.

KFSM 5 news in Ft. Smith reports that police arrested Jarrett Lake, 22, on suspicion of felony animal cruelty. On December 29, 2013, an arrest affidavit for Lake states, an animal control officer who had been called to a house at 2483 Jeremiah Place in Fayetteville found a dead pit bull dog in the garage. After hearing a “thumping” upstairs, officers found another starving pit bill. The home’s owner said Lake had recently moved out.

After contacting Lake, court documents say, Lake allegedly admitted that he was the owner of both dogs and was responsible for their care. Lake, of Jenks, Okla., was a linebacker for the Razorbacks who played from 2010 to 2013.
