Walmart partnering with Wild Oats to offer cheap organic food

Walmart's steady march toward domination has a new (and inevitable) turn: "everyday low prices" for organic food. The retail behemoth is partnering with Wild Oats to offer a range of organic food that will be sold at around 25 percent less than similar options sold elsewhere, according to this report in BusinessWeek

At first, the initiative will comprise about 100 different kinds of Wild Oats food—including canned vegetables, spices, and salsa—in about half of Walmart’s 4,000 stores. Eventually, the line may include fresh dairy and produce.

Forbes' headline: "Watch out Whole Foods?"

(Wild Oats, founded in Colorado in 1987, was a national chain of natural food stores for 20 years. Whole Foods, speaking of, bought the company in 2007 but ran afoul of anti-trust law and was forced to close the stores and sell the brand in 2009.)
