The  U.S. attorney's office has announced that husband and wife family practice doctors Robert and Angela Barrow of Little Rock were indicted by a federal grand jury yesterday on charges of health care fraud.

U.S. Attorney Christopher R. Thyer said Robert Barrow, 60, and Angela Barrow, 50, were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and six counts of health care fraud. The doctors are alleged to have characterized a massage therapist affiliated with their practice as a physical therapist in insurance billings and split the proceeds. Robert Barrow also stands accused of billing for ultrasounds he did not perform. The AP says their claims to Medicare and a private insurer totaled more than $1.2 million.

If convicted, the Barrows face up to 10 years’ imprisonment on each of the six counts of health care fraud as well as 10 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy. Robert Barrow was also charged with four counts of making false statements in relation to health care matters and faces up to five years’ imprisonment on each count if convicted.

The Barrows own Your Doctors Office at 600 Autumn Road, opposite Barnes and Noble.

The FBI and the Inspector General for the federal Department of Health and Human Services conducted the investigation.
