The Arkansas Catholic magazine has announced that Bishop Emeritus Andrew J. McDonald, 90, who served as Arkansas’s bishop from 1972 to 2000, died today st St. Joseph Home for the Elderly in Palatine, Ill. He was the fifth Catholic bishop of Arkansas.
McDonald, a native of Savannah, Ga., created the Arkansas’s diocese’s pro-life office. He was an opponent of the death penalty. As bishop emeritus in Illinois, he was a chaplain for the Little Sisters of the Poor.
