STRONGEST DEMOCRAT: Mike Ross, in a dead heat for governor, did best of statewide Democratic candidates in recent poll.
from recent statewide polling
by Impact Management on races for U.S. Senate
and lieutenant governor.
Republicans led two, with a dead heat in the race for governor.
Impact Management is run by former Republican Party executives, but of course it endeavors to produce reliable poll results. It's even done a poll for us once.
The bottom line:
— Republican Tom Cotton
46, Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor
— Democrat Mike Ross
, 42, Republican Asa Hutchinson,
— Republican Tim Griffin
, 45, Democrat John Burkhalter 30.
Note that these match presumed front-runners in races (GOP governor and lt. gov.) where other candidates have also announced.
Nobody is a clear winner at this point. Griffin is the strongest, not surprising based on name recognition, though the wealthy Burkhalter might have the money to improve his standing. Note that, against an unknown, Griffin couldn't crack 50 percent in the 2nd Congressional District he represents.
Mark Pryor needs Mike Ross, it looks like, given his low numbers in the 4th District and Ross' narrow lead there. All the Democrats need a statewide case of amnesia relative to the fellow named Obama, but that's wishful thinking.
