LRPD RELEASE

On January 29, 2014, at approximately 10:40 a.m., officers of the Little Rock Police Department SWAT Unit were serving a warrant at 407 W. 26th St. The warrant was a high-risk, narcotics search warrant on a residence believed to contain multiple, possibly armed, subjects. SWAT units entered the residence, announcing their presence and made use of police siren. Officers who entered the rear of the residence could hear subjects inside moving about frantically. Once the officer entered the rear door he observed a suspect running down a hallway directly at him. The suspect refused several commands made by the officer to “Show his hands” and “Get on the ground,” and the supect then made motions to his waistband with his right hand. The entry officer fired a single shot at the suspect, who dived to the ground. Two suspects were taken into custody without incident. No injuries were sustained by either suspect.

Pursuant to Little Rock Police Department General Orders, two separate investigations have been initiated into this matter. The first, conducted by the Department’s Major Crimes Division, will be submitted to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office when completed for a review and determination as to compliance with Arkansas law; the second, conducted by the Department’s Professional Standards Section, is charged with determining whether the officer involved acted in accordance with Departmental policies.

The officer was placed on administrative leave as required by Department policy and the investigations are continuing.

Additional information will be made available as the investigations continue.
