Deader than a doornail around here this morning, except for continuing cleanup. This caught my attention in the New York Times:
Los Angeles police are cracking down on jaywalkers,
just as something of a pedestrian culture is developing there thanks to new residential developments downtown.
Could this happen here?
Anybody ever gotten a jaywalking ticket in Arkansas?
As a downtown worker, I have a pretty good idea of how the motorist views people on foot — with contempt. You take your life in your hands with every crossing at LaHarpe and Clinton Avenue. Those lights and painted crosswalks intended to protect pedestrians are not even advisory to the typical motorist. More like a red cape before a bull.
