Joel Gordon
, who was the "director of visitor experience" at the Museum of  Discovery, is the new head of The Launch Pad, a maker space to be operated under the aegis of the Arkansas Regional  Innovation Hub.

Warwick Sabin, hub head, announced Gordon's hire today. A maker space is tech factory  of  sorts, where members will have access to computer technology, electronics, carpentry, machining and metal manufacturing. The idea for the Launch Pad was itself launched by John Gaudin, the Argenta businessman who helped start the Silver Mine and Art Connection in the Argenta Innovation Center at 204 E. Fourth St.

The Launch Pad will eventually occupy 6,000 square feet in the Innovation Center, perhaps by spring 2014, but is temporarily located at 419 Main St.

At one time, the Museum of Discovery was to join up with the Argenta Innovation Center for programming, an idea that didn't sit well with Mayor Mark Stodola, who is working on an innovation center in Little Rock. The Little Rock Technology Park Authority, in its effort to help Little Rock catch up with Argenta, voted last week to lease space in downtown Little Rock for a co-working and technology start-up space.
