Reports this morning from the Little Rock Police Department:

* CHILD DEATH:  One-year-old Joseph Johnson Jr.'s death as a result of injuries from severe burns June 3 at his home at 7 Chimney Rock Place has led to the arrest of his father, said Police Lt. Sidney Allen. Allen said the medical examiner had determined that the injuries to Joseph Johnson Jr. were intentional and, as a result, Joseph Johnson Sr., 23, was charged with first-degree murder. At the time Johnson said he was giving his son a bath and was unaware that the water was too hot until the child screamed. Almost half his body was covered with second- and third-degree burns. The child died June 19 and the death was ruled a homicide July 25. The father turned himself in last night.

* PEDESTRIAN DEATH: An unidentified black man was struck by a car and killed about 8:15 p.m. Thursday on South Arch Street near Interstate Park Drive, Ronica Carpenter, 30, told police she was southbound when another vehicle suddenly swerved, apparently to avoid a pedestrian. She said she was unable to swerve in time herself to avoid hitting the man, who so far has not been identified. Both his legs were broken and he suffered internal injuries, the police report said.
