More museum news for Bentonville yesterday from 40/29.

The public phase of a $28.5 million fund drive has begun for the family-oriented Amazeum museum, which will feature such things as hands-on exhibits, a water area, a wet lab and a climbable tree canopy.

The Walton Family Foundation has made a $10 million matching grant for the  44,500-square-foot museum to be built on J Street near the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art established by Alice Walton. The new museum will use land contributed by the Rob and Melanie Walton Fund. He, like Alice Walton, is a child of Walmart founder Sam Walton.

Plans for the museum were announced in June. Walmart, Lee and Linda Scott, the Hershey Company, General Mills and Nickelodeon also are key sponsors of the project, which is expected to open in 2015. More details at the museum website.
