UA YIELDED: And gave Jeff Long more money.
This evening I received from the University of Arkansas
what it says it believes is a full response to my FOI request for any documents related to Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long's dalliance with an opening at the University of Texas and the UA's decision to move his $900,000 salary to $1.1 million (plus $250,000 in potential incentives) by July 1 and to give him a $100,000 bonus to boot.
Here's everything I got.
Quick thoughts on the mailing I've just received:
1) On Oct. 29, last Tuesday, Long confirmed a pay raise offer from the university. This was days before the report Sunday that Long was in the running. In other words, Long made his deal and ran from Texas before anybody knew he was in the running. Did he produce proof to UA that he was in the running?
2) Long knew better — if the FOI request was fully complied with — to put any of his communications about Texas overtures in a form discoverable by open records laws.
3) You'll see some references to dealing with University of Arkansas Board of Trustees rules and the law, which required a little finagling to put Long's increased pay in line with allowable maximums.
