House Speaker Davy Carter has announced his four appointees to the task force that will study public employee health insurance.

His announcement:

The 89th General Assembly passed several measures during the 1st Extraordinary Session of 2013 to ensure public school employees will have access to a high-quality and low-cost insurance program.

One of the bills passed, HB1101 (Act 6) created the State and Public School and Health Insurance Program Legislative Task Force. The legislation requires the Speaker of the House to make 4 appointments to that task force.

On Monday, October 21, Arkansas House Speaker Davy Carter appointed the following members:

Rep. George McGill (District 78-Fort Smith)
Rep. Harold Copenhaver (District 58-Jonesboro)
Rep. Bill Gossage (District 82-Ozark)
Rep. Allen Kerr (District 32-Little Rock)

“Rep. McGill, Rep. Copenhaver, and Rep. Kerr all have extensive experience in the insurance industry,” said Speaker Carter. “Rep. Gossage brings to the task force his many years in public education and administration. I’m confident all those appointed will use their expertise to bring real solutions to the table by next year.

The House Education and Insurance Committee chairs (Rep. James McLean and Tommy Wren) also will serve. The task force must set a meeting in 30 days.
