Women, mark your calendars.

The group Women Lead Arkansas has a training session on campaign basics set for women who'd like to get into politics.

It will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Grand Hall at Pulaski Tech, North Little Rock, Room B. The cost is $50 and includes lunch.

The group is non-partisan. A flyer explains:

Arkansas ranks 41st for the percentage of female representatives in state legislatures, with only 17%. We have never had a female governor. Few women sit on our university boards, despite the fact that women make up at least half of the student bodies. Women’s talents, innovation and experience are missing in policy discussions that affect our families and careers.

Women Lead Arkansas is a non-partisan non-profit with the goal of getting more women and girls throughout the state involved in politics, policy and leadership.

.. Whether you are just thinking about running, or have already decided to run for office, this is an opportunity to learn from experts, network with women who have been there, and meet with political party representatives, who can explain how they are available to help.

A stray gender thought: Three of the current seven members of the Arkansas Supreme Court are women. One seat open next year currently has only a female candidate. The majority-male legislature could be looking at a majority female Supreme Court to interpret its work before long. Times change. In 1986, my wife was one of only two state court judges who were women.
