BLAMES REPUBLICANS: Dr. Maxwell Sniffingwell responds to fellow graduate of Belford U, Johnny Rhoda.
My friend Dr. Maxwell Sniffingwell called to alert me to a letter to the editor in today's Arkanas Democrat-Gazette from Dr. Johnny Rhoda
of Clinton, a member of the Arkansas Republican executive committee.
It's simple and logical, wrote Dr. Rhoda. Democrats control two-thirds of the key levels of the federal government — president and Senate — so Democrats are responsible for the government shutdown.
Dr. Rhoda, who, like Dr. Sniffingwell, claims a doctoral degree
from Belford University (an acclaimed diploma-by-mail outfit), needs remedial work, Dr. Sniffingwell tells me.
Isn't the refusal to pass an operating budget by the House Republicans the reason government is not funded? Isn't the problem that one-third of the levers of Congress is trying to nullify a three-year-old federal law supported by two-thirds of the goverment?
Dr. Sniffingwell also barked at the latest cynical Republican House ploy, to open only politically popular arms of government, such as the national parks.
Dr. Sniffingwell loves the outdoors as much as anyone. He visits frequently. But he thinks legislation that provides health coverage to tens of millions of Americans should have at least as high a priority as visiting a concrete monument.
