PAY AND DISPLAY: A new routine for parking to start in River Market Sept. 30.
The city of Little Rock parking enforcement division has begun installing these Duncan Pay and Display Units in the River Market neighborhood.
Come Sept. 30, they will go on-line. Where parking once was allowed free for up to two-hours at space on about eight blocks of President Clinton, Sherman and River Market, drivers will now have to feed the machines $1.25 in coin or credit for an hour of parking. The machines print out a receipt that is supposed to be displayed on the side of the car closest to the curb.
Parking rules will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. A ticket from any machine is usable anywhere within the district for the time allotted, including if a car moves from one space to another.
I used a similar machine in New Orleans last weekend. Worked fine. Unless you'd hoped to snare a free space for a time. The change here is meant to encourage turnover.
