* FAMOUS SPEECH REMEMBERED: It was announced today that former President Bill Clinton would be in Arkansas Oct. 3 to speak at a Heber Springs ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the dedication  of Greers Ferry Dam, a ceremony at which President John F. Kennedy spoke in what turned out to be the waning days of his presidency. The Internet being what it is, you can listen to the speech on YouTube (above). It's a ringing endorsement of federal infrastructure investment. Stimulus, if you will. He also spoke that day at the State Fairgrounds in Little Rock.

* FORMER HOG IN TROUBLE: From Greg Yarbrough, via Twitter from Channel 4/16 — "Bryant PD arrested former Razorback football player Cedric Cobbs for trying to pass a forged prescription." Roxicodone.

* HASTINGS JURY SELECTION CONTINUES: Questioning of potential jurors in the retrial of Josh Hastings, a former Little Rock cop, in a manslaughter charge in the shooting of a fleeing suspect, is going slowly, David Koon reports. Judge Wendell Griffen is questioning the panel closely on a variety of questions, including their opinions on the law that will apply to the case.

* HAVING JUST BEEN IN NEW ORLEANS: ,..... I had to laugh at this headline from KTHV: "Man arrested while walking down a highway with a gun drinking alcohol." About half the population of New Orleans has a surgically-attached go-cup. Given the state of Louisiana law (much like Arkansas), I operate under the presumption that many are armed.

* ARKANSAS MAN INDICTED ON BOMB THREAT: The FBI has announced the arrest of Keith Bowers, 59, of Jessieville for making a phone call from Texas to Georgia threatening to set off an explosive in a Carmike Cineman.

* HANG UP YOUR ICE SKATES: Channel 4 says it was announced today that there will be no ice skating rink in the River Market this Christmas season. Bridge lighting will be promotional focus.

* STILL STRUGGLING WITH MARRIAGE RIGHTS AMENDMENT: Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has again rejected a proposal for a constitutional amendment to legalize marriage between people of the same sex. He cited deficiencies in the title and text.
