Slayer who didn't show for Forrest City sentencing in custody

KAIT-TV in Jonesboro reports that a man who pleaded guilty to a St. Francis County slaying but didn't show up for sentencing turned himself in to Craighead County authorities in Jonesboro last night.

More as it develops.

Anthony Antwan Millbrooks had been released by Circuit Judge L.T. Simes pending sentencing on his guilty plea to a manslaughter charge in Forrest City. Sheriff Bobby May called Simes' decision "idiotic" because Millbrooks was dangerous and a flight risk.

Prosecutor Fletcher Long also objected to Middlebrooks' release. Simes has been critical of Long for failing to prosecute a murder case for which Long has said evidence is lacking. Simes appointed a special prosecutor, a step that lawyers say is outside the judge's authority in the case. All have at least tangential connection to the ongoing federal Delta Blues investigation of the handling of criminal cases and public corruption in the Delta, an investigation that has produced charges against police officers and drug dealers.
