Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington entered a plea bargain yesterday
to public intoxication and resisting arrest in an altercation with Benton police
who stopped him from driving home from Denton's Trotline in late July. The closure of the investigation brought release of police video that night, some of which is included in the report above from Fox 16. It includes footage of Pennington falling out of a chair at the police headquarters.
The convictions aren't grounds for removal under Arkansas law. Pennington has apologized, sought forgiveness and said he had sought in-patient alcohol treatment. His job will be on the ballot next year.
