ALEC declares its business private

This story out of Wisconsin could have impact in Arkansas someday.

The corporate lobby ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), which feeds legislation to state legislators to advance its agenda in the states, has begun stamping its paperwork as private documents. At least one Wisconsin legislator is using this to shield public files in Wisconsin, which should be open under sunshine laws, from inspection as to ALEC papers.

ALEC has been feeding legislation to Arkansas legislators for years and that process seems only likely to grow given the alliance between the Repblican Party and the corporate interests that run ALEC. Twenty Arkansas legislators (19 of them Republican) attended the recent ALEC convention in Chicago.
