Gay White, whose late husband Frank was governor in 1981 and 1982, has endorsed Republican Leslie Rutledge in her primary race for attorney general.
Former Prosecutor and State and National Legal Counsel Leslie Rutledge was thrilled to announce that she received the endorsement and support of former Arkansas First Lady Gay White. White was Arkansas’s First Lady during Republican Governor Frank White’s term as Governor of Arkansas. White has spent her life serving others by being a leader in the fields of public health, literacy, higher education, child welfare, financial education, and advocating for seniors.
"I could not be prouder of the leadership roles Leslie Rutledge has played throughout her life. Her commitment to Arkansas is apparent in her willingness to stand up for crime victims as a prosecutor, protect our state’s most vulnerable and precious as an attorney, and represent the values of Arkansas citizens,” the former First Lady said. “Arkansas deserves an experienced, principled, conservative leader in the attorney general’s office. Arkansas needs Leslie Rutledge as its next Attorney General.”
Leslie Rutledge added, "Gay White’s leadership on the important issues facing Arkansans on child welfare, higher education, advocating for seniors, and most recently, ensuring the women of Arkansas are equipped to make informed decisions about their finances — has been an inspiration to me.” Rutledge continued, “I am humbled by her endorsement of my campaign, and I will strive every day to continue her legacy of humble service to the people of Arkansas.”
Rutledge is a seventh-generation Arkansan. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and received her law degree from the William H. Bowen School of Law in Little Rock. Rutledge began her legal career as Clerk for Arkansas Court of Appeals Judge Josephine Hart, now Associate Justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court. She served as a Deputy Prosecutor for the State of Arkansas and then as Deputy Counsel for Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and Legal Counsel on the Mike Huckabee for President Campaign. Rutledge also worked as Legal Counsel for the Republican National Committee. She is currently practicing law at The Rutledge Firm, PLLC, in Little Rock.
