A State Police lieutenant, Sedrick Reed, 43, of Hope was arrested yesterday by federal marshals and held in the county jail pending arraignment today. Another man was arrested in the same case, Lamont M. Johnson.

A summary of the charge on the federal court website says Reed was charged with “possession with intent to distribute and distribution of less than 500 grams of cocaine.”

The State Police told the Democrat-Gazette that Reed, an 18-year veteran of the force, was fired yesterday.

In 2005, Reed settled a lawsuit against the State Police that alleged the agency had discriminated on the basis of his race in failing to promote him.
