BACKED BY BUSH: Tom Cotton of the Club for Growth.

  • BACKED BY BUSH: Tom Cotton of the Club for Growth.

I’ve been breezing through U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton’s latest campaign filing this morning. Some things jump out:

* CLUB FOR GROWTH: Lots of out-of-state money bundled up by what Mike Huckabee famously called the Club for Greed, the billionaire-backed outfit that has never met a tax — except maybe on poor people’s food — that it likes.

* STEPHENS: Tons of contributors from employees of the Stephens Inc. financial empire in Little Rock (the Club for Growth itself is heavily underwritten by J.T. “Steve” Stephens Jr., another heir of the fortune who operates independently from the financial colossus).

* BUSHES: Maximum contributions from both former President George W. and Laura Bush — $10,400 altogether — for the primary and general campaigns. In that Cotton is one of the last unabashed defenders of Bush’s war, it’s the least he could do.

Here’s the PAC listing. Big money.

Cotton raised more than $600,000 and has $1 million on hand, which is expected to be employed in a race for U.S. Senate against Mark Pryor.
