NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN: Saline Sheriff Bruce Pennington
  • 'NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN': Saline Sheriff Bruce Pennington
KATV live streamed Saline County Sheriff Bruce Pennington's 2 p.m. news conference to address his public intoxication arrest — UPDATE: Channel 7 quotes him as saying the charge was for drinking in public, not intoxication, as local media had reported. He was arrested Saturday night by Benton police outside a local restaurant. However, the Benton police news release said the citations were for public intoxication and refusal to submit to arrest outside Denton's Trotline.

He went the full hangout route, it appears, though the web connection was a little jumpy for me and I couldn't catch all of it. "Hey, I made a mistake," he said.

He said he's guilty of the charge and he'll pay his fine. He assured Saline voters "a mistake like this will never happen again because of my poor judgment." He also praised the Benton police for doing their job.

"I'm human. I'll pay for it. But I'm going to continue it" [his job as sheriff.]

Pennington claimed he had only two drinks. But he'd worked in the yard that day and hadn't eaten.
