Sarah Wire has a roundup in this morning's paper (paywall) on the attack ads from the right and from the left on Sen. Mark Pryor. Pryor tells Wire that the influx of money is forcing an early start to the campaign and puts on a good face, saying he doesn't believe his job's in jeopardy.
I've known for years that they would come after me. These outside groups have done this around the country, and I think Arkansans are smart enough to know what's going on here.
I have trouble believing that the ads released so far are going to make any difference. For all the sound and fury on the television set, I thought Arkansas political science professor Gary Wekkin, quoted in Wire's story, nailed it:
[H]e's always run just on his name, not as a Democrat. Republicans are going to be after him no matter what. The Democrats are going to say this guy has never really been a Democrat. It will be very tough for him.
