Remember the fight over fence heights in the Governor's Mansion and Capitol neighborhoods, a dispute that produced unsuccessful legislation to abolish the Capitol Zoning District Commission.
As promised, the commission will have a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at its office on the west side of the Capitol grounds to talk about whether the current 40-inch fence height limit should be retained or moved up to 48 inches, as some want. Waivers are allowed under existing, law but the denial of a waiver for one historic house and the need to seek a waiver for another owned by a key legislative staffer put the legislation by Rep. Nate Bell.
The commission won't make a decision tomorrow. Boyd Maher, director of the commission, said a number of people had expressed an interest in being heard.
