Here's the Little Rock police report on the hit-and-run accident Sunday morning in which a pickup struck a pedestrian twice in a crosswalk at Beechwood Avenue and Kavanaugh. She was walking across Beechwood between the corners on which the Afterthought lounge and Rhea Drug sit. The police report account said the pedestrian was walking east, in a crosswalk and talking on a cell phone when the accident occurred:
VI turning right onto Beechwood from Kavnaugh Blvd. failing to yield to pedestrian in crosswalk struck said pedestrian then stopped after front left tire rolled over pedestrian, kooked into mirror and drove forward causing rear left tire to roll over pedestrian before Witness 1 stepped in front of V1 and asked him what he was doing. Operator of V1 described as white male 50-55 years of age, white clean-cut hair and full facial beard with possible glasses looked into left rearview mirror then sped away from the scene south on Beechwood and disappeared into neighborhood.
The victim, Lois Sandusky, 61, was reported in stable condition after being taken to the emergency room at St. Vincent Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said she was in satisfactory condition today. The police haven't made an arrest. The pickup was described as a Ford F-150 with an extended cab and "military theme" license plate saying "USA AEF."
