Roby Brock at Talk Business has a good interview with Gov. Mike Beebe on his coming budget proposal to meet the expected Medicaid shortfall.
He'll count on 1) growing state revenues and 2) the $145 million state surplus, one-time money that can only be a stopgap. That still might not be enough and other program cuts might be necessary.
Medicaid expansion under federal health care law would inject plenty of new money into Arkansas for the future — and save money in current operation of the program — but Republicans have resisted this boon to the state budget.
