SOLDIER OF THE CROSS: Bob Ballinger

  • SOLDIER OF THE CROSS: Bob Ballinger

More evidence comes today that Rockefeller Republicanism is something to put in a museum with the dinosaurs. A moderate tone is not only lacking among the Republican vanguard, it would appear to be a detriment, based on Republican primary results.

Thanks to a reader for a link to the website of Bob Ballinger of Hindsville who’s opposing Butch Berry of Eureka Springs in House District 97. His treatise on liberty — inspired he says by Brian Disney, a Fayetteville Baptist pastor — drew my correspondent’s attention. Ballinger writes of a nation founded on Biblical principles, where the Biblical culture is under attack.

Even though our enemies have not yet overcome us by force of arms, they are weakening our will and ability to fight. It is apparent that we’ve lost much of the founding core principles and values that our forefathers sacrificed so much for (things that are necessary for the retentions of our freedoms). While many of us were occupied hitherto, Satan has relentlessly and successfully warred against our once Godly culture from within, using the strategies and tactics of persuasion. Our enemies have taken advantage of our freedoms, especially of speech, and we may be losing our freedoms because we are losing our ability and will to be persuasive.

The solution, says Ballinger, is to be “soldiers of the cross.” And no better place to fight than Arkansas, which — who knew? — is a prime target of attack by Washington liberals. (They are so crafty in their assault that the Obama campaign is not spending a dime or volunteer here in the 2012 election, so as to mislead the gullible.)

Our great state is under attack by a liberal, over-reaching federal administration in Washington D.C. like never before. An assault on our way of life in Arkansas is in full force, with a federal government which thinks they can run Arkansas better than the people of Arkansas. The state government of Arkansas has avoided the shortfalls that are crippling many other state governments. This is not by accident! However, liberals in Washington are targeting our state, promoting their national agenda and trying to make changes that they have no right to make in our system of government. Bob will vigorously oppose the national liberal agenda and fight for our state’s right to make decisions affecting the people of Arkansas.

His essays are a slog, though they boil down to the usual essence: No abortion, cut taxes, more guns, better highways (by “innovative” funding of course, not more taxes) and so on.

UPDATE: Local newspaper covered the candidates recently.
