The U.S. Courts website notes that federal Judge Susan Webber Carter plans to take senior status — or judicial retirement — effective Aug. 22, 2013 when she turns 65.

She was a law professor when President George H.W. Bush nominated her to the bench in 1990. She was known then as Susan Webber Wright and became a familiar name in the news for her work in cases involving President Bill Clinton, including the Paula Jones lawsuit. The judge has remarried since the death of her husband Robert Wright in 2006.

Clearly, events in November will have much to say about that coming vacancy on the bench of the federal courts' Eastern District of Arkansas.
