The library has purchased the building at 420 Main for $775,000 and will spend another $2.8 million to renovate it during 2013. It will replace the Argenta Branch at 506 Main with a 16,719-square-foot facility with computer lab, reading room, cafe, exhibit hall, meeting rooms and 140-seat auditorium. And books — 12,000 of them.

The system notes that the library, founded in 1946 and headquartered at 2801 Orange Street, is independent from other libraries in Central Arkansas, but anyone who’s a resident of the county can obtain a Laman library card. Information online here.
