Police identify youth shot by police Sunday morning

The police have identified the youth killed by a police officer investigating a possible car burglary about 5 a.m. Sunday morning as Bobby Moore Jr., 15, who lived in an apartment at 11214 Mesa Drive.

Moore was shot by Officer Josh Hastings as he tried to drive a Honda (later determined to have been stolen) away from the Shadow Lake Apartments at 13111 West Markham, where Hastings was investigating a possible car break-in.

Here's the police report on the shooting, which remains under investigation.

In it, Hastings is quoted as saying he saw three suspects get in a vehicle "and speed towards him at which time Officer Hastings tried to get out of [this preposition was inadvertently omitted originally] in front" of the vehicle. "Officer Hastings advised he feared for his life and fired into the vehicle, striking the driver." The two other juveniles fled, but were arrested nearby.
