The Monday line is open. Closing out:
* MILLION DOLLAR WINNER: Frank Karnes of West Fork had a $1 million winner with a $20 Arkansas Millionaires Club Arkansas Lottery ticket purchased at the Greenland Minimart. About a third is deducted for state and federal taxes.
* HOT AS HELL: It reached 108, a record, by 12:30 p.m. today and then moved up to 109. Do I hear 110? Yes! 110 in LR at 2:04 PM. Ties for 3rd hottest temp ever — behind 114 on Aug. 3, 2011 and 112 on July 31, 1986. UPDATE: Make it 111, for an uncontested bronze medal.
* LITTLE ROCK CITY BOARD: Filing opened last week for four open city board seats, the Ward 4 seat held by Brad Cazort, and at large seats Positions 8 (Dean Kumpuris), 9 (Gene Fortson) and 10 (Joan Adcock.) No filings as of a 1 p.m. check, but the clerk's office said Adcock had said she'd file before the day was over.
These candidates had picked up petitions to gather signatures to qualify for the ballot: Anthony Hampton and Brittany Cliff, (Pos. 9); Williams Lloyd Young (Pos. 10) and Lynn Hamilton and Joseph Busby (both of whom said all three at-large positions were possibilties.) I recognize the names of Hamilton, a Democrat-Gazette business executive who lives in the Quapaw Quarter and has mulled a run before, and Busby, a leader of the Oak Forest and Fair Park neighborhood group.
UPDATE: Joe Busby is not a candidate. He picked up a form for a potential candidate whose name he is not disclosing and was required to sign a ledger noting he'd picked it up.
* HAPPY HOMOPHOBES: The Democratic Party apparently plans to put support for same-sex marriage in the national party platform and Arkansas Republican homophobes (to repeat myself) are already salivating about adding gay bashing to Islamo-fascist bashing on their voter palm cards.
