Twitter has become maybe the world's best instant source for crowd-sourced breaking news. But the millions of voices are not always reliable.

A Twitter account in Arkansas, called Arkansas Scanning, circulated photos of what were represented to be photos of a fire on Mount Magazine. Those messages were rebroadcast by several mainstream news sources before somebody called foul, noting that the photos were stock fire images readily available on the web and that there was no fire reported on Mount Magazine, nor an evacuation of the lodge, as one Twitter message reported.
