Ark. Democrats raise money today for Iowa candidate

Today's the day a host of big-name Democratic politicians, from Gov. Mike Beebe and Attorney General Dustin McDaniel on down, will hold a Little Rock fund-raiser for Democratic congressional candidate Christie Vilsack of Iowa, doing the important work of challenging wackjob Steve King. The event is at 11 a.m. at 1000 W. Third. Roby Brock has said previously support for Vilsack, wife of Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack, stems from friendships formed in Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2008 presidential bid.

Fine. But Blue Arkansas Blog makes a worthy point:

Umm…Governor? Guys? Assorted Democrats rushing to put your names on a fundraiser? Got a question for ya. Are you guys going to roll out this same kind of red carpet for our congressional candidates — Scott Ellington, Herb Rule, Ken Aden, and Gene Jeffress-as you are Iowa’s?

An organizer of the event responds that using political capital to help a great candidate (Vilsack) take out a right winger is a "no brainer." He doesn't believe helping out a friend from Iowa should deter major givers who'll attend this event from helping Arkansas Democratic candidates.
