If state Sen. Gene Jeffress wins the Democratic nomination for 4th District Congress after leading the primary with no visible campaign, he may set a new standard for the non-campaign. (Maybe his very lack of public awareness is a plus in these overheated times.)
Latest: Channel 4, which has arranged a noon hour debate Wednesday in the 1st District Democratic runoff between Scott Ellington and Clark Hall says it appears it will be unable to put a debate together between Jeffress and his opponent Q. Byrum Hurst, who said he'd debate Thursday or Friday. Tweets Channel 4: "Jeffress now says he's unavailable."
Jeffress has yet to file a federal campaign contribution report, apparently because he hasn't raised or spent enough for a report to be required. When he filed, he said he'd be reporting some money (see video). Why bother if you can win without it? The winner faces Republican Tom Cotton of Washington, D.C. in the general election.
STOP THE PRESSES: The un-campaign has a Twitter feed. Says @genejeffress:
so sorry I can't make it! I'm going to be out in the dist. those days. Thanks so much for the invite, though!
UPDATE: After I asked Jeffress by Twitter if he published a list of campaign stops, I got this response:
No, but we just scheduled a debate with Q. on Monday the 11th.
Awaiting details. 140 characters or less.
UPDATE: Jeffress now says the debate will be Monday on KARK. Noon.
PS: If you'd like to see Jeffress, I know this much:
FYI, our sched. for the rest of week is LR to Malvern on Tues, Weds: NW Ark Thurs: PB and SE Ark, and Fri: West Ark.
