A quick look finds a quiet world for starters today. So I'm going to toss off a few items of interest and head for some chores:
* COKE V. PEPSI: The University of Arkansas's decision to make Pepsi the official campus soft drink has produced a few spit-takes among the Hog faithful, not surprising in a state that has historically leaned toward Coke. A Twitter last night from University of Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long:
Please understand a beverage contract like this must be done through a competitive bid process mandated by the State of Arkansas. There was a committee made up of a cross section of University leaders who arrived at a decision based upon the best interests of the University as a whole. Athletics supports the process and the decision.
* A DOG'S LIFE IN PINE BLUFF: Channel 4 provides a gruesome report, with video, on how Pine Bluff officers chose to deal with a dog injured by a car — cutting its throat with a pocket knife.
* 'DADDY'S GIRL WITH UNLADYLIKE HOBBIES': No Arkansas angle here, but thanks to Andrew DeMillo for a Twitter on this story of a Georgia college gal whose hobby is making pipe bombs and blowing things up. The ATF took a dim view.
* ON GUARD NEAR RIVER MARKET: Thanks to David Goins of Fox 16 for the photo below of a muscular lineup of Little Rock police cruisers late Friday night at Markham and Scott, one block west of the River Market entertainment district. Late-night gatherings, at least one recently in which gunshots broke out, have caused increased police interest in the neighborhood.
