It’s open. Closing out (in addition to photo dispatch from Gov. Mike Beebe’s excellent Chinese adventure):
* GOOD CRIME READ: Everyone recommends for reading pleasure this history piece in Grantland on Oaklawn Park, a murder and organized crimes in Hot Springs.
* DON’T LET THE BEDBUGS BITE: Who knew that state Health Department tasks included certifying that a Pocahontas motel was free bedbugs.
* MORE GAMBLING PROPOSED: The attorney general’s office turned down a proposed constitutional amendment to expand gambling in Arkansas on account of ambiguities in the wording. The supporters of the idea might be back. I note that the idea was presented by Peter Kumpe, a lawyer for the well-knownWilliams and Anderson Law Firm. They don’t traditionally work for free. The amendment would allow Nancy Todd’s Poker Palace and Entertainment Venues, LLC, to license up to four gaming casinos, one each in Crittenden, Franklin, Miller and Pulaski Counties.
