On Friday March 23, in the Eastern District of Arkansas, U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright denied a preliminary injunction filed against the US Forest Service by the Ozark Society to block gas leasing, exploration and development activities in the Ozark National Forest. On October 31, the Ozark Society sued the Forest Service for violating the National Environmental Policy Act and the Administrative Procedure Act, in preparing a changed condition analysis and supplemental information report for the forest in September 2010.

The report supported the federal Bureau of Land Management’s 2008 development plan, which outlined drilling up to 1,730 gas wells in the Ozark National Forest over the next ten years. Forty-two wells have been drilled in the Ozark National Forest since 2005, disturbing about 205 of the forest’s 1,162,000 acres.
