KFSM Channel 5 News in Fort Smith reports that Washington Co. officials say that detective Lewis Scott McAfee, who shot and killed a man in Farmington last Monday, is "likely" the same Lewis Scott McAfee who was sued three times in 1984 for incidents involving excessive force while a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department — including one shooting death and another incident in which he shattered a suspect's leg, with the victim later settling for $5 million
In the incident last Monday, McAfee killed Joshua Thomas during an attempt to question Thomas about an allegation of child sexual assualt. McAfee said Thomas attacked him with a crowbar. Previously, McAfee killed another man — mule trader Victor Barron of Wheeler — in 2004. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing by prosecutors.
